Roll dice. Drink well. Stay a while.
Clanker's Cavern is Edinburgh's board game cafe — a place where friends gather around tables piled high with cardboard, meeples, and proper good drinks. Whether you're a seasoned strategist or you've never touched a d20, there's a seat and a game waiting for you.
A dungeon you'll actually want to spend time in
We've got over 500 board games on our shelves — from quick party games you can learn in two minutes to sprawling campaigns that'll keep you coming back for weeks. Pair that with craft beer on tap, cocktails with ridiculous names, proper coffee, and homemade cakes that disappear faster than we can bake them.
The Cavern started because we wanted somewhere to play games that wasn't someone's cramped living room. Somewhere with decent lighting, comfortable seating, and a bar. So we built it. The vibe shifts through the day: quiet coffee and puzzles in the morning, families and friend groups in the afternoon, and competitive game nights once the sun goes down.

Common questions
Do I need to book or can I walk in?
Walk-ins are always welcome. We never turn anyone away if there is space. For groups of six or more, we recommend booking a table so we can make sure you have enough room to spread out. You can book through our website or give us a call.
Can I bring my own games?
Absolutely, you are welcome to bring your own games. That said, with over 500 games in our library, there is a good chance we have what you are after — and our staff are always happy to help you find something new to try.
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
Yes, we take dietary requirements seriously. Our menu includes clearly marked vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. If you have specific allergies, just let our staff know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
What age range are you suitable for?
We welcome all ages. Children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult. During the day, the atmosphere is family-friendly — perfect for kids and parents to play together. In the evenings, the vibe shifts a bit more towards adults, but older teenagers are still welcome with a parent or guardian.
How much does it cost to play?
It costs £5 per person for a gaming session with no time limit — play as long as you like. Children under 10 are free when accompanied by a paying adult. Food and drinks are purchased separately from our menu.
Do you host private events?
We do. We offer private hire for birthday parties, corporate team-building events, and group celebrations. Our party packages include reserved tables, a dedicated game guide, and food and drink options. Get in touch for details and availability.
